De regio Alhaurín staat ook wel bekend als de valle del Guadalhorce. Deze vallei kenmerkt zich door zijn vruchtbaarheid en de teelt van groenten en fruit waaronder citrusvruchten zoals mandarijnen, sinaasappelen en citroenen, ofwel de tuin van Málaga. De regio is momenteel erg populair bij buitenlanders die zich gaan vestigen in de bekende plaatsen Alhaurín de la Torre en Alhaurín el Grande.
Alhaurín de la Torre is one of the white villages (Pueblos Blancos) in Andalusia; with large surrounding citrus and avocado plantations. Located in the hills of Sierra de Mijas. Here you can still escape the coastal areas with its huge crowds, while still being close to the coast.
Ahaurín el Grande is located near Málaga at the foot of the northern side of the Sierra de Mijas and overlooks the spectacular Guadalhorce valley. Alhaurín el Grande is well known for its gastronomy; on the main street (Camino de Málaga) you will find several cosy and good restaurants. It has managed to retain its typical Spanish character well.
You will find not only the places but also the famous Caminito del Rey: a spectacular hiking trail, where part of the walk is on a narrow path above a gorge. The cliffs have a height of 400 metres and from the past, the path is known as the most dangerous hiking path in Spain!
