Mijas is misschien wel een van de bekendste witte dorpjes aan de Spaanse Costa del Sol. De gelijknamige gemeente bestaat uit 2 delen; landinwaarts ligt Mijas Pueblo en aan de kuststrook van Mijas Costa vinden we La Cala de Mijas.
Het oude stadscentrum van Mijas Pueblo is gebouwd op een rotsplateau op circa 400 meter boven zeeniveau. Het biedt op verschillende plaatsten een spectaculair uitzicht op de bergen, zee en de omliggende dorpen. Het pittoreske dorpje zie je fel afsteken tegen de rotsen, de witte huisjes zijn kriskras tegen de bergen aangebouwd. Mijas Pueblo wordt gekenmerkt door kleine steegjes, terrassen met blauwe potten vol geraniums, kleurrijke kozijnen en prachtige poortjes. U vindt er vele bars, restaurants en souvenirwinkels. Mijas Pueblo heeft ook een stieren arena, het is een van de weinige arena’s met een ovale ring, de arena stamt uit 1900 en is te bezichtigen. Aan de randen van Mijas Pueblo is een botanische tuin, deze tuin is vrij toegankelijk en aangelegd vlak bij La Muralla, de naam verwijst naar de oude Arabische vesting die de omgeving domineerde, Hier is wederom een panoramisch uitzicht over het zuiden van Andalusië.
La Cala de Mijas ligt in het midden van de Costa del Sol, op nog geen 25 minuten rijden vanaf Málaga Airport. U treft hier minder toeristen aan dan in Fuengirola en Marbella. Rust en strand zijn de kenmerken van dit dorp. Verder heeft dit dorp een prachtig aangelegd wandelpad, dat langs de kustlijn loopt tot aan Calahonda. Tijdens de wandeling langs dit pad van 6 kilometer treft u diverse soorten flora aan.
