The Costa del Sol (Sun Coast) has a very pleasant and healthy climate, excellent accessibility, beautiful cities, wide sandy beaches and many activities for young and old. The coast is 190 kilometres long and runs along the Mediterranean from Nerja to Gibraltar. Every year, many tourists flock to the Costa del Sol, which is not surprising when you know that the sun shines here an average of 300 days a year!
Málaga airport can be reached from several cities in the Netherlands within just 2.5 to 3 hours. You can fly from Amsterdam, Rotterdam or Eindhoven to Málaga with ease. Málaga airport was recently modernised considerably; you can now also travel on by train to various coastal towns such as Málaga, Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola. From Málaga, you can reach many major cities in Spain. There is now a high-speed train (like the TGV) that takes you to Seville within 2 hours and to Madrid within 2.5 hours.
The Mediterranean climate is probably the main reason why the Costa del Sol is immensely popular, with an average winter temperature of between 12 and 18 degrees it is also particularly pleasant here in winter, plus it hardly rains at all. The mountains of the Sierra Nevada protect the coast from the real cold and the influence of the sea ensures that temperatures don't drop any further either.
In the Sierra Nevada mountain range, you can enjoy winter sports during the winter months, this area is a great area for skiing from November to the end of March, with beautiful slopes and long runs. Temperatures here can drop to 10 degrees below freezing at night while the daytime weather is nice and sunny. With clear weather, the contours of Africa can be clearly seen. A nice combination of beach and snow within a 2-hour drive from Málaga!
Facilities on the Costa del Sol are excellent. In addition, the presence of good healthcare, many Dutch doctors, physiotherapists and dentists is a pleasant thought and makes a stay somewhat easier after all. If you intend to settle on the Costa del Sol as a family, it is good to know that there are several international schools and universities.

The table below shows the average minimum and maximum temperatures. As can be seen, the temperature does not go below 8 degrees even in January and December. In the months of April, May and June, the temperature is already over 20 degrees. In the holiday months of July, August and September, the temperature often exceeds 30 degrees.
In cities like Seville, Málaga, Cordoba and Granada, it can even reach 40 degrees in summer. From mid-October, it will only get cooler again in southern Spain. Despite occasional showers in winter and quite hot summers, Andalusia has a lovely climate.
